As a long time striper, from the photos on this thread, they would have been painted. The stripes wrap into the grille area in a way that that couldn't have been done with decals. It's only in the last few years that we can wrap vinyl into complex areas with the new stretchable, colorfast materials that are now available.

The grille area, on the cars I remember , was body color. The color bands were just like a early D90 stripe minus the break for the emblem.
Decals or paint, IMHO, if they were real.....they were dealer applied for promos only. You can bet as to why it wasn't cost efficient either way. Ever wonder why you see so many 68's with horrible stripes? One of my favorite quotes is..."They never make them too skinny do they?" . BIG |
