One way is to measure/mic the outside diameter of the distributor. I have the measurements from unmolested distributors on a different thread somewhere.

JMO, I too think it is a good stamp, someone may have got a little carried away with the detail work, maybe in a lathe ?

How did they get the number/letter stamps so clean? Thats what makes it look like a restamp. It has the exact same characteristics of a 499 I have with the same date.

The corners on the 4 look funny like they are deeper then the rest of the four like somebody added them after the fact. They also look to deep especially since it looks like someone torned the distributor on a lathe.
