love this thread, such a cool car. Looks like a M20 was slipped in vs a an M21, and they slipped in the endura bumper (very cool) but did not do the spoiler package (according to the check off list). I have the same gloss on my tail panel (different black than the body though). [/ QUOTE ] Yes, there were a couple things not correct with the car, but since his parents picked it up a couple months before he got back, there wasn't really anything he could do. My dad was stationed in Thailand when he ordered the car, so he had to go through the military ordering processes, which he said was pretty rinky-dink. He did order the Endura bumper, but the tranny and spoiler options weren't right. Funny thing is, of all the stuff that wasn't right, he was most upset about the dealer sticker they put on the trunk. He talked to the dealer and explicitly told them no dealer stickers anywhere or he would refuse the car. It did have trim rings on it. Not sure why he ordered those, as he had a set of Cragar SS's for the car shipped home before he got back to the US. One of the guys he was stationed with had a brother back home that ordered a copo, which is what my dad originally wanted. The salesman told my dad it was impossible and the guy was just blowing smoke. Since he was told he couldn't order the L72 from Chevy directly, he tried to order a Nickey, but was told they wouldn't hold it that long and he would have to find someone to pick it up in Chicago when it came in - which proved too difficult, so he went with the L78. Since it was the first new car he ever ordered, he really wanted to pick it up himself.

I noticed the $56.90 charge for posi. Does it have a curved-neck radiator?

Does the car still have the Blue Light stereo radio in it? A solid lifter car with awesome sounds! Too cool!!

Well I finally made it through all the CD's and unfortunately there was neither a picture of your dad's car or mention of his name in the class winners report every week. Sorry I could not come up with anything.
I did however come across a listing of John Bezdichek running the 70 Dick Harrell Camaro with a time of 12.17. I had heard it ran that quick but could never find anything. Unfortunately no photos have ever surfaced of that car at Minnesota Dragways though we know it ran there several times.

[/ QUOTE ] Wow - what a small world. My dad has known John for years. John has owned more hi-po cars over the years than anyone I know. The 427 my dad's car has in it right now came out of John's Blue 67 Biscayne he ran in SS. As for the radio, it's not in the car, but it is downstairs. On the radiator, I'm not sure what the curveneck looks like and the way the car is put away, I can't get to the front. If you send me some pics of each, I'd be glad to check for you in the spring.

For the few who remember MN Dragways: This is my dad in his 65 GTO at MN Dragways. According to the back of the photo, circa Aug 1968. The GTO is sitting in a barn, but unfortunately, it's not for sale.

"Curved neck" refers to the metal tube the upper radiator hose connects to.
On virtually all cars it is straight. On '69 Camaros with a bb and HD cooling [probably all COPOs] the tube has a 90º bend. It is also seen on 396/AC Camaros but is fairly unusual on a non-AC 396. Camaro ordering info lists positraction at $42.15 but for 3.73 or 4.10 ratios "also includes HD radiator...$56.90" but does not specifically list the 396. The manner in which it is stated leads me to believe you couldn't order the car that way but the factory may include it at the additional cost.
