Default Trans Am PS Box

Is anyone familiar with the power steering box on a 1970 Trans Am and what may cause a severe leak from the shaft that comes from the box and attaches to the pitman arm? Over the weekend, power steering fluid started pouring out from the area around the shaft.
The leak isn't from the lines of power steering pump, it is definitely coming from the shaft. Any way to repair without pulling the box or does the box come out this weekend?
Being a Corvette guy, I know about their power steering system, but I don't know much about a Pontiac.
