Rubber mat removal

Schonyenko2...question...on the ones you have worked on was there the heavy Black tar sound dead'ner like a carpet car???? under the Mat

or just the brown 1/2" thick woolish type padding??? on the one I just pulled for Bill it had only the woolish brown stuff..and I thought while doing it this makes sense...as a car was equipped with the cheap rubber mat it only received the cheap padding to go with it...can you fill us in on what you have seen???
