Well, there is nothing wrong with curiosity and asking questions. They should just use "all" the data to draw a conclusion.

As far as the impact, think of pushing a pen into a sheet of paper that your holding. Slowly and you'll distort the whole piece before the pen goes through. Now hold a sheet and give it a quick jab. A nice clean hole with minimal surrounding damage. Even take your BB-gun to your neighbors window. You can make a nice clean hole with a BB shot from a gun in the pane without cracking the glass. Now try using a hammer.

A plane wasn't meant to go through hard stuff so, it'll shatter, compress, breakdown -"get smaller" as it goes. Not a lot of strength, but a hell of a momentum.
