It's listed in the Supercar Registry and has been certified twice by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance. It was certified in June of 2018 prior to the restoration. It was re-certified in May of 2024 after the restoration. This example retains its original VIN tag, Cowl VIN stamp, Firewall VIN stamp and Trim tag. It's achieved a Concours Gold Certificate at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in 2021 scoring 986 of 1000 points. It's been featured in All Chevy Performance Magazine and Hemmings Muscle Machine magazine. It was also proudly displayed at the Camaro Nationals in 2021. A COPO is a General Motors Central Office Production Order. Exact “L72” 427/425 Camaro production numbers for 1969 are not known but it's believed that less than 1000 were built. This example retains its original factory VIN tag and original factory trim plate. As indicated, this example was built the 4th week of September of 1969 at the Norwood, OH assembly plant. As the NCRS Shipping Data Report indicates the actual build date was September 26th, 1969. Norwood body numbers will usually (but not always) follow a sequence pattern with 427 Camaros produced at the Norwood plant. This example was originally ordered with the following options: Lemans Blue exterior, Black standard interior, X44 trim package (no stainless trim, quarter trim and wheel lip molding), cowl induction hood, 14x7 steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps, F70 x14 raised white letter tires, AM radio, 427/425 V8, M22 4-speed, Positraction with 4.10 ratio and power front disc brakes. It was sold new at Ray Bryant Chevrolet located in Dayton, OH. Ray Bryant was a well-known dealership in Ohio and close to the Norwood assembly plant where the car was built. The car spent its entire life in Ohio until it was sold to MS CLASSIC CARS in April of 2024. The car has had nine owners since new and was raced extensively from 1970 until around 1977. It was campaigned as “Rats Nest” in the Super Stock D class. In the late 1970's the car had roughly 1,100 original miles. The car had 12,300 original miles in 1985. The 8th owner had the car from 1985 to 2018. The last owner's name is Jim Lammers and he lives in Minster, OH. Jim is responsible for gathering all the information, the Jerry MacNeish certification, the restoration, the awards and magazine exposure. Jim actually made a book about the cars history and restoration process which looks like something you'd buy at a book store. Listed below are the items that are included with the car. May of 2024 is the first time MS CLASSIC CARS has listed this car for sale. NCRS Shipping Data Report. Ownership History. Prior owner interview notes. Digital flash drive with of photos of the car in the past, restoration and present. Shutterfly hard cover book documenting the cars history and restoration. (2) - Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance certification report and certificate. (MCACN) - Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals display card, judging sheets, Concours Gold Certificate and Gold Award trophy. Hemmings Muscle Machines December 2023 magazine. All Chevy Performance May 2024 magazine. Authentic front and rear chrome bumpers. Owner's manual and touch up paint. This exterior of this car is absolutely stunning in every sense of the word. The body retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of the NOS front fenders that were installed in 1978 and the replacement original trunk lid. As documented the body was stripped to bare metal and sculptured like a piece of artwork. The body is extremely straight with excellent gap lines throughout. The original dated (34th week) “ZL2” cowl induction hood and original doors close very nicely. The body was re-painted in its original color of Lemans Blue (Code 71). This color dresses the car beautifully and highlights the stylish body design. The high quality paint was recently detailed to a brilliant shine by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. It retains all of the original factory stamped glass with exception of the front windshield. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced such as the glass stainless trim, wiper arms, antenna, driver's side mirror, front grille, T-3 headlights, chrome front bumper, door handles, rocker moldings, tail light bezels and lenses, chrome rear bumper and emblems. The car sits on authentic 14x7 “XT” painted steel wheels with chrome center caps. Two wheels are dated August of 1968 and two wheels are dated July of 1969. The wheels are wrapped with the correct style Goodyear Wide Tread F70-14 white raised letter tires. The interior of this car is mostly original and in excellent condition throughout. The only interior trim pieces that were replaced include the headliner, dash pad and carpeting. As documented everything was removed from the interior during the restoration process. The factory overspray, original water shields and paper inspection tags were still in place on all the inner panels including the doors. The original water shields were reused. The original X4 grease pencil work denoting the X44 trim package is on the rear seat support. A new firewall pad was installed. All of the interior panels were simply deep cleaned and re-installed. All trim panels are 100% original to the car with proper date codes on the hardboard backer. The original bucket seats and rear seat upholstery shows very well. The original seat belts have date codes. It retains the original gauge cluster with NA sticker. The original dated steering column with all its original components was cleaned, detailed and reinstalled. Everything in the interior is in working order such as the dome light, horn, headlights, turn signals, dash lights, radio and heating system. The trunk compartment is nicely restored throughout. The original trunk divider is dated May of 1969. It's equipped with a reproduction spare with original jack. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. It was repainted in the correct shade of black on the firewall, inner fenders and radiator support. The firewall was correctly detailed with overspray from body color and assembly markings. During the restoration process an authentic and correct “L72” 427/425 V8 was sourced that was completely rebuilt to factory specifications. The engine is casting number is #3968512 which is often referred to as a 512 block with date code correct 291 heads. The engine date casting number is September 8th, 1969 which is three weeks before the build date of the car. The engine is fed through a AC #727 fuel pump and correct GM Holley carburetor number #3959164-GE LIST-4346 that's dated 983. The engine is cooled by a date code curve neck radiator with original tanks and core. The radiator shroud is a factory original piece. The engine breathes through correct manifolds and a new correct full Gardner exhaust system with correct resonators. During the restoration process an authentic and correct “M22” Muncie Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission was sourced that was completely rebuilt. The transmission casting number is #3925660 which is believed to be an over the counter unit because it has no stampings. An original 3138 Hurst shifter was also sourced, rebuilt and re-plated. An original 4-speed pedal assembly was also sourced. During the restoration process an authentic and correct “BE” Posi-traction rear end with 4.10 gears was sourced that was completely rebuilt. The rear end numbers are BE 0708G1 E. From the information gathered the rear end was out of a Burnished Brown COPO from Frost Chevrolet located in Miamisburg, OH. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. It was repainted in the correct shades of grey primer, black primer and Lemans Blue overspray. Everything was duplicated to how it was found from the factory after it was hand stripped. The original subfrane was removed, repainted and re-assembled with all the original dated components. The original fuel tank had a date code of 5 70 which is appropriate for a late 69 built car and the original Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Company stencil was found on the tank. A new reproduction fuel tank was installed using the original straps, sending unit and insulation pad. A vinyl template of the original ink stencil was made to recreate the image on the new tank. The entire steering system, suspension system and braking system was gone through. The #9204 power booster, master cylinder and related components are all original parts. An original dated brake hold-off valve was restored and re-mounted t the driver's side frame rail. |
