Rant

Just a few things.
1. I really appreciate my surgeon. She did a great job. The surgeon who did my previous 3 shoulder surgeries and one elbow surgery sent me to her. He told me he could do shoulder replacements, but the techniques are changing so fast that he has to go observe the best one in the State every once in a while just to keep up. He suggested I just go to her. She is very down to earth, and really lets patients participate in their own health care decisions. She had never let a total joint replacement patient go home the day of surgery; let alone a REVERSE total replacement. I told her I had a high tolerance for pain, was a quick healer, was self motivated, and that I had the world’s best caretaker in Sherri. We came home the same day.

2. Surgery was at OU Medical Center in Edmond, OK. By far, the best care I have ever received start to finish. Everyone from the receptionist to the nurse’s aid that wheeled me out was top shelf.

3. I have already cut back on the narcotics, and should be completely off by Tues.

4. I REALLY thought I was going to be essentially invalid for at least the first two weeks. That has not been the case at all. This pain isn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting. Of course, I may change that tune once therapy starts. For now, I only have three easy exercises to do twice a day. At least in those three exercises, I am already on par (range wise) with the right arm.

Sherri and I went to see my 90 year old mother yesterday to give her an update. She doesn’t do email, texting or internet, so we couldn’t include her in the family loop electronically. I have a younger brother who is looking at possible knee replacement. My mom started crying, and said she must have done something wrong during pregnancy. I assured her we were just a couple of dumb a$$es who wore ourselves out.
