No gas crisis in 1971. That happened after the 1973 Yom Kippur war in Israel. As a result of the Arabs getting another lesson in why not to attack Israel, OPEC (lead by our good friends the Saudi's) started the first of many boycotts. (Mods. please note, this is historical fact, not political opinion.)
More than likely this car was sold due to skyrocketing insurance premiums, which if you had a speeding ticket would most definitely lite the fuse.
