Original deuces have chromed, tall dome, acorn nuts - most likely the version available from the tire shop across the street! They look very similar to the lugs in the pic above.

Pretty sure the ones shown above are a steel nut with a stainless cap crimped on.

Joe, BINGO.........you are correct. I see so few original lug nuts (as shown below) its my own conclusion as to how rare these must be. I would be interested to learn what 1969 or 1970 Wheels used these same stainless capped lugs, besides the Z-28. Its so difficult to find these survivor lugs, therefore I'm not sure what other applications used them.....

How about my 1970 14x7 Camaro Rally Wheel application ???

FYI, The short crown 2nd design is sold by Ames Peformance Pontiac for one for a nominal charge. I've seen inept EBAY buyers, pay way too much for "NOS" 2nd design lugs, thinking they were buying 1970 Originals......NOT !!!!!!!!

Here are a couple pictures of my original 70 Z28 with extentions, lugnuts, caps, rings, tires.

I'm pretty sure I have a set of those lying around in my valve stem drawer...... I thought they were aftermarket stuff!

Why the heck would Chevy use them in production rather than just having longer rubber stems??????

Ah, I see. I thought they were totally chrome like the deuces.

So the easy way to tell them apart is the height of the crown at the top... if it is approx the same height as the hex it is the "ole" one if it is shorter than the hex... it is the newer?
