Default is my low mile 68 L89 car a real L89

I hope someone who can help reads this. While in Iraq last time I got the oppertunity to purchace a low mile 68 camaro that my dad has known about for 25 years or so. My Camaro was green (JJ) did have a big block, and I've been told that it was an L89 optioned car. In the early 70's the car was brought to north western Pa from somewhere in Ohio, and has sat in different garages ever since. The origional owner did alot of drag racing with the car, and the origional drive train didn't come to Pa with the car. I know a man that went to Ohio to pick the car up with the second owner. The man I know said the seller wanted $1,000 extra for the build sheets (I sure wish I could find those). The gentleman I know said the build sheets showed the L89 Option. I'm trying to restore this car to as close to as origional as possible, though for now I can't sell it as one of 272 origional L89 cars, though I have no intentions of selling car anyway. The car is mostly in boxes, but well on it's way to being put back on the road. It's body is solid and rust free, wich is expected from a 6,800 mile car that's been garaged since the early 70's. The VIN is 124378n440139, any help would be great. I've already got a set of the 842 heads, and an M22 trans. I realy just need info and of course to put it back together
thanks alot
Lou Stiver

Notice the difference in $$$ between a L78/L89 Optioned 68. If those papers are still around I would pay the grand and pick them up. Use caution though since they can be faked as well!!!

yeah, i'd love to get my hands on those build sheets, and I would pay for them, however finding them is the hard part. That happened somewhere in Ohio back in the 70's before i was even born. Due to new privacy laws i can't even find out who the origional buyer was, at least that's what i've read, that and i'm not sure there are any files on the old VIN numbers.
thank alot
Lou

Ohio only keeps title info for 10 years, then destroys the records.
Good luck.

That's a real bummer about Ohio destroying the records. I've provided my VIN to Chevrolet and ordered a restoration packet, I'm anxious to get it however I have my doubts that it includes the kind of information that i'm looking for. I'll keep digging, and keep everyone posted on my progress, Thanks alot for the all the help, I realy appriciate it.

It still needs paint and put together before it sees the road again. Right now the car is in Pa. at my parents house but i'm moving into a house with a garage so i plan to bring it down asap. When it does finally get on the road, I plan to let everyone see it while i drive around town, to the cruises, and probably the drag strip once or twice.
