Default question for '69 Chevelle people

I've got a '69 Biscayne that uses the same hood hinge as the Chevelle and even though the car is low mileage the hood hinges are worn out(old drag car). Correct hinges haven't been available from GM for a long time. I see where a repro hinge is available... is it any good and does it look correct? The other alternative is rebuilding them. I see a company called SMS advertised in Hemmings that rebuilds hinges. Anyone had any experience with them?

copo69, it just so happens that I installed a set of the repro hood hinges from Goodmark on a 69 SS this past summer and they worked great. The finish is not correct as they come painted a semi-gloss black but I could not tell any difference in them from the originals other than no slop from side to side...................RatPack..................

They should be dark gray or black phosphate. Some people use a dk. cast gray paint for them so they do not rust like phosphate does after being exposed to humidity..............RatPack..................

What color are the hinges supposed to be? I have photos from when our '69 cars were new and the hinges appear to be black. In one photo the spring was definitely gray. These were Baltimore built cars. Pictures of a '66 Oshawa built Beaumont that I had also shows black hinges and very light gray springs. At the shows everyone seems to have their hinges done gray. Any thoughts?
