PLEASE CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS.** This beautiful 1948 Wayne Model 70 Shell Themed Gas Pump is the rare shorter version. The Wayne Pump Company of Fort Wayne, Indiana was founded in 1891. The Wayne Model 70 gas pump was introduced in 1937 to somewhere between 1954 and 1960. Wayne introduced the Model 70 and called it “The World's Most Beautiful Pump”. Wayne introduced the Model 70 as a new distinctive Wayne Computer. The pleasing simplicity of this design permits beautiful color combinations. Illustrated advertisement signs on four sides provide space for brand identification and merchandising slogans. The sturdy Wayne structural steel corner post construction with steel floor cross-members gives it the same rigidity as the famous Model 60. Although Wayne didn't advertise a shorter version of the Model 70, it's believed they produced shorter versions for businesses with height restrictions and other various applications. The shorter versions didn't include the four illustrated advertisement signs on the four sides because that's where they were cut, lowered and welded. The sight glass was moved to the top of the pump with the illustrated advertisement panels below in 1948. This example fits that design so it was produced in 1948 or thereafter. This example was the product of a complete restoration. The original steel body was stripped, prepped and refinished with automotive grade paint. It was themed in the Shell Gasoline brand in the colors of yellow and white. The base was refinished in gloss black. Shell Gasoline plaques and a placard describing the lead content are affixed to the pump. Red decals that read, “Service You Can Trust” were applied to the pump towards the bottom. Replacement glass panes and rubber seals protect the illuminated three-function registers which indicate sale price in dollars, gallons delivered and cost per gallon in cents. Hinged door open to reveal the internal components. An Irpco Fuel-Flo ¾” black fuel hose and a Wayne pump handle are mounted to the side of the pump body. It has a reproduction Shell clamshell milk glass globe. It's equipped with a switch that operates the globe and display lights. This show quality piece of Americana will make a nice addition to any Automobilia collection. MS CLASSIC CARS will drop off the gas pump at our local Craters and Freighters Company at no charge. The new owner will pay them directly for crating and shipping anywhere in the lower 48 United States. The dimensions without the globe is 64”H x 32” W x 20” D. The globe adds another 17” in height. |
