I love the look of those Cragars. That car would look good with many different wheels.

... Update and correction
... I talked with Herbert Woods brother and according to him Herbert's 1962 Pontiac Catalina came with the 389 motor with 3 2barrels and he later purchased a 421 motor and raced with that ... He never did get an Aluminum front end Pontiac.

Default Q

I've been interested in this post, as I have a '67 SS/RS L78 project I am preparing to restore. I pulled these 2 photos of L78 blocks from my files. I have always been interested in the L78 history for the 1967 Camaro, and finally own one after owning several '67 Z28's.

The first is for the Pace Car Charlie used to own. It's not very clear, but you can make out the MY code at the end of the engine hp code stamping. I believe the VIN is 7N183613. Also note the engineering number 98168-A. The picture came from the Mecum 2022 auction presentation.

The second is a block that was on a site somewhere on the web, I can not remember, but it is a VIN 5,000 from the original poster's car, which is the 2nd L78 ordered. The VIN is 7N193075. It looks like an original stamp, as you can see a ghost of the 0,M and Q. This may be from either Grumpy's L78 or one of the other Pace Cars? I have Grumpy's VIN somewhere in my files but can't locate it at this time but will keep searching.

I know there is another post in the General Discussion forum regarding the build of the 1st 1967 L78's but thought this would be the more informative location to post these pictures, as there is more information in this post for those inquiring about the earliest L78 1967 Camaros.

Here’s a few Old Newspaper Racing results, that include James Keeton & his ‘67 Camaro.
07/19/71 Ad w/ 11.4 run @ 122.78 best I saw, but there’s more if you want to look deeper.

Still looking for it. It was with a conversation I had with Kim Howie many years ago? We were at KCIR with Larry Kimball who bought the car from Jenkins. He had the car there on display.

... I was told from CRG that so far ...
... my car is the next Camaro Built after Grumpy Jenkins 1967 396/375 Camaro
... and my car was built just 2days after Grumpy Jenkins Camaro
... I just wondered how close our Vin #'s are.
... Thanks in advance for any info that you can provide.

Finally! After searching my research material of all things Supercars, I located what I believe to be the VIN for Grumpy's 1967 396 375 hp Camaro. I thought I had a phone conversation with Kim Howie about it, but it was actually listed right here on the SYC website in a post from 2005. I printed that post for my records. It was a post, dated around June 7, 2005, titled "Nostalgia event at KCIR". It was posted after the KCIR event I attended with Kim Howie, Tom Clary, Harry Kalwei, Dave Libby, Wes Jerde and then owner of Grump's 1967 Camaro, Larry Kimball.

Here is Kim Howie's quote, rest his soul; "Joe, I also wanted under the hood to see the trim tag. I did get the Vin# 197055 They claim it is the first built 396-375 car."

So, there it is, hiding here on this website for the last 20 years! Dana Mecum bought Grumpy's '67 Camaro several years later from Larry and is the perfect gentleman and steward of this incredible piece of history. I hope he does not mind my digging into past discussions related to the vehicle, posted before he purchased it, identifying its VIN.

Here is a picture of Harry on the left and Larry on the right, standing in front of "Little Hoss" when I owned it at the time, and Grumps 1967 then owned by Larry Kimball. Here is the original post I referred to. Kim's comment is on page 7 of the post.
