Very nicely done clone its definetly worth what he is asking just keep in mind it is mostly repop but you couldn't build that car for the money he is asking. I was tempted to buy it to put my ZL1 motor in. The holy card is still on the dash board

I purchased it from the man in Illinois that bought the car @ Mecum in 2005 for $57,000.00. He was selling for a very reasonable price and the car looks like it was nicely done. It has been in a climate controlled garage since he purchased in 2005 and it has not deteriorated at all. The most wrong that I can see if that the rear inner wheel wells were painted the body color - the rest of the car looks pretty correct.

You cannot build these cars for less than $50k - even with a clean shell.

I was asking about the restorer as paint can hide almost all sins - generally a restorer will have a good or bad reputation that will be pretty representative of thier work.

As for the ZL1 motor - I like that idea. I just sold my 427 COPO car and had the desire to get another car. I have a 1969 plane jane Camaro running a 2008 Z06 LS7 dry sump motor backed by a T56 6-Speed but something about the old big block power that I love.

Did you look at the car in person? What did you note about the car that was good and bad? Correct and incorrect? I had it inspected by my guys that are in his town but they are not hard core vintage muscle car guys so they offered more of a general overview than comprehensive analysis.

Yes I did look at the car. I think you got a good deal at the price he was asking or less. It probably started life as a single exhaust car since the drivers side plate was added, but it did have a V8 vin. If I remember right original 1/4s but had door skins put on even the steel dash was original since it had the raised speaker grates looked like a very clean car to start with..
The engine was stamped to be matching numbers it did have 842 heads with a original 163 intake almost all parts were repop but installed very nicely. I really didnt look under the car so do not know if it was a original 4 speed car or not all in all a very nice car. Do you want to buy a dated ZL1 for it.

What are you looking to get for the ZL1? What casting is it?

As for the car - the owner did not know alot about it as he really was not a car guy. Told me he bought at Mecum and only put 34 miles on it in 5 years. My guys told me the car was really clean but noted the wheel wells painted the body color. I dont know if this is ever acceptable but when they told me that I began to wonder how many other technical mistakes the car had in it.

It has a X22 trim tag with 52 52 paint codes. Is this a novelty tag?

I believe it to be a repop looked to be to crisp but take a picture of it and post it here and ask for other opinions since I am not a expert on trim tags.
If your interested in the ZL1 give me a call 630 333 8333 John
Here is a picture of the casting number of the ZL1
