Third pic is a tire that is supposed to be orig. It is on my Z28 and has been there for 18 years. It is supposedly a orig. tire and not a repo. It says "Vytacord Polyester cord".. Any info or opinions ?

Does it show "Made in the USA" anywhere on it?
I found this under GoodYear Tire History:

"1962 New chemical plant started in Le Havre, France....Vytacord polyester cord announced....Research scientists discovered sprayable polyurethane rubber....Goodyear Aircraft awarded new government contracts, including one for development of high resolution radar for world's fastest fighter plane....Super Single tire and rim announced as replacement for duals on trucks....Goodyear racing tires used on more winning stock and sports cars than any other brand."

What are the build date codes on the tires? Those numbers are melted into the sidewall near the bead during the curing process.

General question: Do all the repo's tires have current dates to comply with DOT regs.?

From a 69 Corvette "Stingray Guidebook" by Rick Bizzoco.
UY05D81 U=1969 (year of production, Y=May, O= Goodyear (Manufacturer), 5=Gadsden,AL (Location of Plant),D8 (these two positions are noted as "size of tire" but no chart was avaiable, 1 ("type of tire" again unknown).

TCO551D T=1968, C=Sept, O=Goodyear, 5=Gadsen, 51=unknown, D=unknown.

MDUY DJA162 M=Goodyear produced domestically D=Plant code(no chart), UY=tire size (no chart), DJ=tire type (no chart), A=Internal use code(optional), 16=week of production, 2=year of production (1972,1982??) Note: "a new DOT code initiated after May 22, 1971, this was a 10 character code".

Charlie, hope this helps....Alec

Thanks..so it sounds like the Vytacord polyester cord tires were probably made in 1972. Did they still make Wide Tread Gt's in 1982 ?

Charley:
I'm almost certain that is 1972. They were not making the Wide Tread GT or the Polyglas in '82 (at least in the small white letters). I bought an NOS F70-14 Polyglas in about 1979 (still have the receipt) from a local Goodyear store by luck. They checked other Iowa stores to find inventory since it was discontinued and none was found.
