Default 9737 COPO

I got to thinking after reading another thread, what does 9737 (the number not the code)stand for?I thought it would be a COPO code number issued from a numerical count of preceeding COPO's.This does not explain the 9560 and 9561 codes of 1969 since 9737 was around in 1968.The 9 seems pretty consistant throughout the years, was this a prefix code for the COPO projects or just a chance digit. The other RPO codes seem pretty common, lettered A-Z and continued thru the years. Not a very significant question but it has always made me wonder...........

Default Re: 9737 COPO

There were many COPO numbers used. The 1968 SS 396/375 L78 Nova TH400 cars were COPO 9738. Other 97xx numbers were 9711 and 9796. I do not know if the numbers were selected for a reason or just ramdom but the hi po COPO numbers seem to begin with a "9". Even in 1976 there was a COPO Nova number 9C1.
