I am not a trim tag expert but that body number is very close to my 2L 4K conv.#149416

That photo was shown in a recent FB Marketplace ad. Unfortunately the car's VIN indicated it began life as a 6-cyl, so either the VIN or TT was swapped at some point.

Any sign of original Mountain Green paint on the body shell? Or a bracket underneath for a rear axle radius rod? If so, maybe a L78 car with a junkyard VIN tag stuck on it after being stolen at some point??
Can't really think of a good reason it would be the other way around (correct VIN tag, wrong trim tag). Why would anyone take a 4K tag and plaster it onto a 6-cyl car and leave the 6-cyl VIN tag in place?? Not like you are going to fool anybody that way.

50 years ago ? Crash the L78 car and buy a 6 cylinder to swap all the drivetrain to. I don't think many people would have given a second thought to the differing tags back then, it was "just" a car then, not revered as in the present day. May have even been done in the 70's to fool insurance and get a lower rate for insuring a 6 cylinder car...we did lots of crazy things back then... ![]() Pull the cowl panel ans see if the partial is still there and if it matches the vin tag.
