I switched the motor from my 65 Chevelle to the 69 Nova. I had an HEI dist (mid 80's style)on the motor and there is no clearance for this in the Nova. Is there something smaller I can use or do I have to go back the points distributor?
Thanks in advance for your help. |

If you have to go back to points distributor due to size constraints but don't want the points - you can install an electronic conversion kit from somewhere like Lectric Limited. All fits under stock cap, no other wires protruding, etc. Not the cheapest solution maybe but.....

You will have to get new wires,or MSD small cap for HEI wires is the best.

I have the Pertronix II in my stock distributor and it has been great. Another option is Dave's small body hei conversion in your stock distributor. I have not used him, but others seem to like his stuff.

I got a Dave's unit, and I like it because the components are available at any auto parts store. He does have to machine the underside of the body to square it, so don't use a "special" core. I bought one for $5 and sent it to him for modification.
