P1P03C...
P = Muncie 4 speed, alum case 1 = 1971 model year P = September assembly month (in this case, September 1970) 03 = day of assembly (9/3/1970) C = M22 Is that 9976171 number cast or stamped? If it's a main case casting number, I have no idea what that's from, and it sure blows the P1P03C number out of the water. Can't help you on the tag number.

The 9976171 is stamped. I felt that was the Vin nbr. The rest , as you decoded was what I thought, but wasn't sure.I didn't see a provision for a TCS plug in. Shouldn't there be on on a 71 trans?

![]() ![]() N = a number designating the GM division of the car (Chevrolet would be 1, and I believe Pontiac is 2) 1 stands for model year 1971 L = a letter designating the vehicle assembly plant nnnnnn = the last six digits of the sequential VIN of the car Colvin's book makes no mention of anything regarding the TCS switch provision ![]() |

The M22 that I had in my deuce had a provision for a TCS plug in. I'll have to look again, but I don't remember seeing it on this one. I agree those numbers I gave really don't appear to be a sequential vin number, but it's the only other stamping in the main case.
A friend of mine is wanting to sell it, but he wanted to be able to tell a prospective buyer what it came out of. I'm not sure were going to find out. ![]() |

If your going to look at it again??? Get all the casting numbers... And check the tag number, it should start with a 3 not a 9... Crash
