This magnificent 1964 Ford Galaxie Custom 500 is the ultimate nostalgic street machine with a built dual-quad 427 V8 engine and Toploader 4-speed manual transmission. As the VIN number indicates this example was built in Los Angeles, California was a 1964 Ford Custom 500 2-door sedan with a 289 8-cylinder engine. It was the product of a meticulous and no expense spared rotisserie restoration that was completed in 2013. The restoration was headed by the owner Stephen Harvey of Costa Mesa, California. Stephen Harvey spent countless hours referencing books on Total Performance Fords of the era and the people who raced them. His vision was to build a period correct drag race Galaxie that he would've built in early 1965. This car is in high show quality condition throughout. Since completion it's been shown at the Huntington Beach Concours d' Elegance and achieved First Place in the Nostalgia class at the Grand National Roadster Show. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased the car in February of 2024 and April of 2024 is the first time we've listed it for sale. A new binder with plastic sleeves of receipts and restoration photos are included.

The exterior of this car is absolutely stunning in every sense of the word. During the restoration process the entire body was media blasted and any rust was repaired. A list of the bodywork along with photos is provided in the gallery. The body is extremely straight with excellent panel fitment. It was outfitted with a fiberglass bubble hood which was from the well-recognized 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt. The body was primed and painted in Wimbleton White which is a standard color for a “body in white”. The high quality paint was recently detailed to a deep shine by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. The laminated front windshield tinted glass, vent glass, door glass and quarter glass was replaced new. The rear window is original and in very nice condition. All of the glass has the correct Carlite stamps. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced new such as the brilliant stainless glass trim, chrome wiper arms, driver's side chrome mirror, hood pins and trim, front grille, headlight buckets, Wagner headlights, satin gray painted front bumper, NOS arrow heads with SS trim, door handles, rear trim, tail light bezels, tail light lenses, rear chrome bumper and emblems. The has a killer stance on 15” black steel wheels which are wrapped with Firestone Deluxe Champion 6.70x15 front tires and Radial Dragster 8.20x15 rear tires.

The interior of this car is also absolutely stunning in every sense of the word. During the restoration process the Aqua Blue interior was changed to Red with bucket seats. The cabin was insulated with Dynamat which was placed in the same location as the Ford Body Assembly manual states. The original dash wiring harness was cleaned and restored. The entire dash, instrument cluster, steering column, steering wheel was restored and painted red. The radio and heater was deleted with dash and firewall covers. The new white headliner and sun visors complement the red color perfectly. It was outfitted with original Bostrom bucket seats with new red upholstery. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the gauges, knobs, switches, door sill plates, door panels, arm rests, window and vent cranks, door handles, rear seat and carpeting. Some of the interior custom features include a dash mounted Autometer RPM gauge, Stewart Warner oil pressure and temp gauges, Seat Belt Solutions lap belts and Hurst shifter with white shift ball. The original style Rotunda tachometer isn't working but included. The painted trunk compartment is beautifully restored throughout. Its home to the factory style trunk mat and rear mounted new NAPA black battery.

The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support was re-finished in the correct shade of black. It was outfitted with a professionally rebuilt Ford 427 Top Oiler V8 that runs excellent. The engine was dyno tested with 484 horsepower and 503 ft. lbs. of torque. The #C3AE-6015-AB 4-bolt main engine was stroked to a 452 V8. It was setup with a Lunati cam, KB pistons, H beam forged rods, Cloyes double timing chain, SFI harmonic balancer, Melling oil pump, Edelbrock aluminum heads, Trend Performance push rods, stainless steel rocker towers, Baldy valve covers and special deep sump oil pan. The engine is fed through a medium riser 8V with dual Holly BJ/BK 4-barrell carburetors that are covered with correct style air cleaner. It's equipped with a factory dual point distributor modified to electronic, factory HP correct fuel pump, HP fuel filter and lines. The engine is cooled by a new hi-efficiency 3 row radiator. The engine breathes through a set of long tube headers and a 2.5” exhaust system with new Spin Tech Super Pro Street mufflers. The engine is coupled a to professionally rebuilt Toploader 4-speed manual transmission and Lakewood bell housing. The clutch is very easy to operate and the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. The power is transferred to the rebuilt 9” Nodular POSI rear end with Dutchman 31-spline axles.

The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. This undercarriage is nice enough to display with mirrors and lights at an indoor car show. The underside was re-finished in the correct shade of red primer. The chassis was re-finished in the correct shade of black. An original gas tank was sourced and restored including the original pad material. Everything has been restored or replaced such as the steering components, suspension system and braking system. It was outfitted with rear Cali-Trac bars to keep the wheels on the pavement. The driveshaft and miscellaneous parts were painted with factory assembly markings.

This car is a gorgeous looking classic muscle car from top to bottom. It's also an extremely user-friendly car that's a blast to drive!
