PONTIAC TEMPEST Sign
Most collectors of cars from the 60’s tend to have various signs in their shops for added ambience.
I was told this sign was in the attic of a closed Pontiac Dealer. This vintage PONTIAC TEMPEST sign is one of the coolest designs I’ve ever seen. Extremely heavy and the inner workings are the best part. Completely Original including the adjustable hanging chains. The upper and lower sign panels have several separate clear plexiglass sheets sandwiched together backed by a black sheet on the backside. The mechanism inside the center gray metal box is a series of a motor, gears, shaft, disc and two separate colored flat panels. Both colored panels travel back and forth across the fixed fluorescent tube which allows these colors to broadcast into those clear name panels. Seeing the colors change on this sign especially at night is awesome. Still has its Original cloth wrapped electrical cord. The cool old plug was the only item needing repair. J-B Weld …. fixed. I have seen this exact sign hanging in several dealership photos.

Was there a name of the company who made the sign?

From what I have gathered this sign was seen in the early 60’s, since the Tempest was first offered for the ‘61 model year.
I wish I could find an old Pontiac catalog that may show types of signs offered to dealers in that era. On the inside is a paper tag from inspector #3. On the outside back is information on the General Electric Ballast and Danville, Illinois.
