DZ Stamped engine in a C10
I have a 350ci in my 1969 C10 or so I thought. It is stamped V0313DZ with casting code 3970010. The engine is in the running truck so difficult to see anything else. Would you say this is actually a 302ci Z28 engine?

Would suspect a restamp. Have never seen an 010 block before April.
Machine marks are running left to right. Should be N & S as broach marks. Would bet that if measured from the crank centerline, the deck is less than 9.025 inches, indicating it has been decked. Position of the stamp is not correct. I am certain others will chime in.

I wonder what is the casting date on the back of the block? Should be a week or so before 3/13.

Looks like the broach marks are running the wrong way and it is not a similar stamp to my DZ the week before

Check the casting date. If it is pre March 13, 1969, I believe it will be the earliest known 010 block out there. I have never seen one dated prior to April, 1969. Not saying they don't exist. Just haven't seen one.

Should get the truck back from repair shop and try to see back there today - truck was just purchased last month - had sat a year and little maintenance done over the last decade or two. Changing all fluids, belts, hoses & tune-up parts. Had the town carburetor guru revive it this week: Adjusted carb - set timing - rejetted - was way rich at idle - and way lean at RPM - both conditions fouling the plugs. Valve train checked good. Compression checked good: 1 - 175 .... 2 - 165 3 - 165 .... 4 - 170 5 - 180 .... 6 - 175 7 - 175 .... 8 - 175 Last edited by MR SHORTY; 05-17-2024 at 12:33 AM. |

If that was an MO block found in a Chevy truck,...it could be mine.

That is a restamp for sure. It is not consistent with other legit stampings.

Will try and twist around to see the casting date. Is there a legit reason an engine gets restamped such as after deck machining?
