Default 1972 Nova Trunk Paint

Hey Guys,

I am in the process of restoring the trunk on my 72 SS Nova. I wire wheeled it, primed and sealed it. Now I am at the step of spraying a spatter paint on it and then clear coat. Ground up sells two different spatter paints. Which one is closest to the Factory Finish? Or if you have had success with a different spatter paint. What paint is it and does it come close to the Factory Finish?

Thanks in advance,

-Dave

I am not sure any are real good in a rattle can. I would talk to Frank Arone or Brian Henderson before I do anything. JMO Sam

Hi Sam. Thanks for the quick reply. I know that Brian has the original formula or something very close to it for the factory spatter paint. But, I think for this car I am going to go the rattle can route.

Thanks,

-Dave

Dave, you could also check with the folks at NNN...I'm sure they can offer good advice for the do-it-yourselfer....

Eastwood black-aqua splatter paint in the can works for a driver. Cover the trunk floor. Half way up the quarters. Do not spray the marker lights. I would not clear over the splatter. Gives it a yellow cast. It is easy to touch up again and again. Earl

I used the Eastwood kit..but you have to use the clear over the color. My car is a driver not a showcar.

sam,I sprayed my 68 nova ss 396 with this method ;it looks like factory.I sprayed a few coats of ppg dp90(kind of a semi-black)on the second coat ;while it is still wet, fog in with the splatter color rattle can.It will dry up to a nice even sheen.Chris Teed
