I have the opportunity to buy a 68 Z/28.
British green, with light green interior. Absolute original drivetrain. Cowl plenum, smog ect nice interior. Low #2 driver condition. Some rust and scaling on the frame. But a real nice authentic car. Needs a good clean, buffing/touch-up, and detail, along with a mechanical freshen, and brakes. (been sitting a few years) No factory documentation, But the engine stamp is just right. Any opinions? ![]() |

Has it been restored or is it original / semi original?
If it was restored years ago... to what standard was it restored? If it is an older restoration... talking the mid 80's or so then there may have been alot of NOS stuff used during the resto... which would still be extremely nice (although it could be dirty or just had the wrong finish put on it during the resto.) and expensive/hard to come by now. IMHO cars restored to a high standard using correct NOS or orginal parts with correct finishes ie Laquer paint in the early - mid 80's but showing some minor wear are probably a very good buy... because to replicate the resto currently with correct parts would be cost prohibitive (if you could even find the parts at all.)

Mostly an original car. Not many replacement parts at all.
Original interior except front seats. One lacquer repaint in the late 80's - still pretty nice. Engine rebuild a few years ago- all authentic, not many replacement parts, that I couldn't fix it a few hours from my own supply. The car was not taken apart, but the frame is not the greatest I have seen - Has a bit of heavy scaling from rust, but this is only cosmetic, the integrity of the frame is still very solid. All original sheet metal, with some small repairs in the usual places (done right) The only real items it would need right away are new springs and complete brake restoration. Also I would have to reassemble the exhaust and smog system, and remove the headers -- The original pump, and manifolds come with the car, but would need to find tubes, diverter, DG pulley, and hoses, (pretty easy) If I can get past the Ivy Green interior (not one of my favorites), it might be easier for me to decide. He is asking High 40's. What do you think? ![]() I think it is a very good deal, the wife is NEVER so sure. So if the guys here agree with me, my chances are good. ![]() |

I just really don't have a clue about the prices of the 68's. If it was a 67, or a 69, it would be easy. If it wasn't Green, with that Ash Gold (ivy green) interior, it would be easier too. Just a very nice authentic -Real 68 Z. A friend of mine owns it, not offered to the public yet. I have stalled for over a year, now he really wants it to go. My wife remembers that I always called 68's the orphans of Camaro 1st Gen's. And she is always looking for ANY reason NOT to buy another car. Now that is her new saying around here. "it's a Ugly Green Orphan!" ![]() |

Very special. ![]() I really don't mind the colors at all, just the high asking price for a 68. Sure I would rather have a Black/Black RS Z/28. But don't know how fast I will find one. ![]() |

I passed on a similar car this year. Red, red, no docs, real original motor car, no cowl plenum, missing smog, very nice car although restoration was not good enough to show on higher level. Car finally sold for $40.

I just sold my 68Z through the forum here in July. One re-paint (needs new paint to be really nice), Original block, non-original heads but correct casting number. Everything else matched. No smog or exhaust manifolds (headers). Lemans Blue, blue interior, no console. 24,000 documented miles and a pile of documentation (POP, sales contract, body broadcast, pictures etc.). I got really close to my asking price of $45,500.00. I would say this car is a bit over priced in the high 40s. Low to mid 30s would probably be more like it although for resale the color combo and lack of docs would be a hard sell for many. Sounds like a nice car however.
