Default Right place at the right time.

I happened to be at the right place at the right time last month. We were meeting in San Antonio preparing for the NCRS Nationals that will be held there in August when one of the other Texas NCRS members handed me a few pages of written information and pictures on the 1965 Corvette coupe he ordered new when he was in college. I know Ken and his car from NCRS and he explained that at 62 he had done everything he could do with his little red coupe and he was ready to pass it on to a new owner. He hoped I may know of someone that may be a good owner. I told him, "I'd be a good owner". Ken and Vicki ordered this car on 12-31-64 and they picked it up on 3-11-65. He was a college boy and didn't have lots of money to spend, he ordered a red with red/white interior 327/300 horse four speed coupe. Since whitewalls were $31, he didn't want them, he did order a radio and posi traction. In the early 80's, he restored the car and campaigned it to Bloomington and many NCRS Regional and National events. The car was awarded a Gold Certificate at Bloomington, NCRS PV and Dontov award, NCRS Founders award and many, many Top Flight awards.
Ken kept everything from the window sticker to warranty book and canceled checks and finance agreements. He sold the car with a set of original 1965 dated tires for show and an original off road exhaust system he put on the car in 1982. I finally picked up the car on Sunday, between Ken's schedule and mine, this was the first weekend we could get together. I was scared he'd get cold feet, but he kept his word and we loaded up the car in Dallas and I hauled it back to Austin.

Truly an amazing car that I plan to drive on some road tours.

Vicki was there taking pictures of the whole event, she said it was the prettiest car she had ever seen.

Pete, the '64 won June Sprints with Bill Morrison at the helm in 1967. Colin will be wheel to wheel with him in about one week at Road America. It won the 1968 June Sprints with Dave Rex at the helm. Dave was scheduled to be at the Road America vintage races this year, but he had to cancel. He's raced a clone to the '64 since the early 80's and we were going to talk about me possibly taking over the racing duties of that car. Bill Morrison still races the 1965 Corvette that broke down the weekend of the 1967 June Sprint. He borrowed the car owned by Dave Rex and went on to win the event setting a course record.

Tim....wow, your car has a nice racing pedigree! . Is it a red roadster? .
Good luck in your turn as wheelman in whatever you run! .

Yes, it's a red roadster. I put a '67 big block hood with a white stripe on it. I'm realizing I'm more of a polisher instead of a racer. The '65 that Dave Rex races now is a very pretty and period correct car. No flares and not a full roll cage. It looks like they looked in the mid 60's and is a very authentic race car. That's why I like the current car he runs. Old technology and a straight forward car. I'm really no racer and never will be. I'd like to run with the group that runs at Texas World Speedway, they adhere to strict rules about modifications.
