I have always wanted to know what the story was behind the seldom seen RPO DX1 Stripe option. The following 1969 RS Camaro on ebay add has these original stripes, but missing on hood due to replacement.
I aways wandered why this stripe option never took off. I know y'all in the know will educate me. ![]() ![]() ![]() Todd |

I just don't get how you can say "THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL UN-RESTORED CAR" when it has has one repaint and that stupid caution fan sticker found it's way on the fan shroud!
Doesn't "unrestored" mean just that, including no repaint?? I think so. Rick H. |

Two of my 69's have the DX1 stripe option. I have seen this particular stripe on Sport Coupe's, RS's, a couple of SS's (hockey stick exempt), and even a COPO 9561. There were just over 20,000 69 Camaro's with this stripe option originally. I would guess that over the years when many of the 69's were re-painted, this stripe was not put back on. Back in the day, alot of people weren't too concerned about stripe correctness.

Tony?
Where did you come up with 20,000 Camaro's with this stripe option? That seems so incredably high. I've been in and around 69 Camaro's since the mid-1970's and I think I may have seen one with this stripe option. ![]() Steve

Tony's right, a little over 20,000 1969 Camaro's were ordered with the DX1 RPO option. As far as I know the only Camaro that could get the DX1 where non-SS or Z/28 cars. The Z of course got the rally stripe and the SS cars got the D90 stripe automatically when ordered. It could be deleted as well for the SS cars as denoted on the trim tag. The D90 stripe could be ordered on the base car as well.
And yes the COPO could get either the DX1 or D90. Rick H. |

Rick are you saying that an SS Camaro could not get the DX1 stripe? I have a Camaro History book by author Steve Statham and it has a 1969 red, 396, vert SS with DX1 stripe and of course it has the simulated stacks on hood. Please clarify.
That is incredible that some 20,000 had this stripe package because I have rearly seen it. Thanks Todd ![]() |

Does that book state that the SS car shown came with the DX1 stripe or is it just a picture with no explaination? Just because the picture of a car has the DX1 stripes doesn't mean it's correct. I have seen a lot of cars restored incorrectly and some of these are in books.
All I know is this and this is what I learned, the D90 stripe was the stripe included when someone ordered the SS package. The DX1 stripe was the RPO stripe available for cars other then SS or Z/28. DX1 and D90 were available for COPO. Now could someone have pulled some strings or got an RPO change for the stripes when the order was placed? Sure, maybe. Could someone have ordered an SS with stripe delete and had the DX1 stripes put on? Sure. Remember you could order an SS with stripe delete. Of course the trim tag would show that. Stranger things have happened. Of course I would want to see a buildsheet or some sort of legit document showing the DX1 option on an SS car. Anyone?? Here is another way of looking at it. Knowing what we do about the stripes is if an SS was being judged we would expect to see D90 stripes or (- -) on the trim tag and no stripes. Or if it came to be judged and had DX1 we would expect to see documention supporting the stripes. I have seen more of these cars with DX1 stripes lately and the ones I have seen have been on base cars including rally sports. Again, stranger things have happened. Like rear spoilers on 67 Camaros or bowties emblems on 67 Camaro outside mirrors or Caution Fan stickers on restored high dollar cars. I have seen all of these in books. Are they correct? NOPE!
