This 1968 Coronet R/T started life as a light blue white vinyl top car built in Los Angeles plant. It was often raced as Magnum Force in it's early days out on the coast. I bought the car in Feb of 2004. I plan on adding a complete six Pack set up to complete the look the

> plus car. Anyway here are some highlights from the R/T as it sits waiting on Spring 2005.

> The engine starts off with the original (#'s matching) 440 block, which had never been rebuilt. The block was bored .030 over and a set of light weight KB237 pistons were used. Total Seal piston rings were used which seal the compression (approx. 11:1). The block was checked for cracks and was align-honed for proper crankshaft bore and fit. Brass freeze plugs were installed in the block. The Factory Forged Steel crankshaft was turned .010 and micro-polished. New Manley rod bolts were installed in the factory LY 440 Connecting Rods. The entire rotating assembly has been balanced. ARP main studs were used to secure the main caps on the bottom end. The engine has a 426 Hemi oil pump and system, so the oil pick up tube bore was machined out to 1/2 inch for increased oiling. A 6pack/Hemi 6 quart oil pan was used for increased oil capacity. All Bearings are Cleavite 77 brand. A Hughes-Engle HEV5056 Solid Tappet Camshaft was chosen. Edelbrock Performer RPM Aluminum Heads were installed. Hughes Springs, locks, and retainers were used to meet the needs of the high performance camshaft and to achieve proper spring height. Crane Gold Aluminum 1.5 ratio roller rockers with tempered and polished shafts control valve opening and closing though 3/8 chrome-moly(unbreakable) push rods. A port-matched Performer RPM intake and Holley 850cfm double pumper carb feed the 440. Finally a set of Hooker 1-7/8in Headers were used and are also gasket matched to the exhaust ports of the heads. A TCI SFI Approved, > "> Rattler> "> Torsional Balancer keeps everything running smoothly. If one thing is for sure, the 440 is built-right! Over $6500 was spent in parts and machine work alone. The above performance motor rebuild was completed in 2002. I did not do the rebuild it was done by owner in CA.

The Trunk floor was cut out and replaced with clean sheet metal and then sealed. The floor pans were rust free, but had a lot of carpet glue and film on them. In front of the drivers seat was some water stains on the floor but didn't seem to cause a problem. The prior owner from CA indicates that he found some topical rust on some areas of the car (very common on old cars), but no rot. The body was cleaned and prepped (some dents and dings smoothed out) before applying the new black vinyl roof and silver base coat/clear coat paint. A new front windshield was installed with all other glass being in good condition. > The Frame rails are in great shape and very solid. The underside of the car has not been touched and still has the factory under coating. I can't say the underside "looks" beautiful, but it has not been detailed or anything like that. Some people have the rubber coating removed and reapplied as part of a restoration. It is a dirty process and I chose not to do it. The speedometer and amperage meter work fine. The fuel gauge sending unit has been flaky but I have a new one from Year One that just needs to be put in the tank. So the only gauge that doesn't work is the factory temperature gauge but it is not hooked up because I am using the Autometer - Sport Comp temp. gauge. You could have both hooked up, but I have not done so yet.

I like the stance of your car, and the day 2 look. Also, you can't beat the lift off six pack hoods...they are just too cool.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I just got the rest of the six pack parts so I should have it all ready by SCR8, I am also putting in a manual valve body, and I need to finish putting the interior back together, it needs the heater and its controls put back in along with the wiper motor, I have to get busy and put in the 456 gears and the super stock springs so it will launch good.
