Sunday morning I met 2 friends at the local Waffle House for breakfast then we ventured down to the local Advance Auto Parts to kill some time. Tony is talking to an average looking guy in his mid 50's when I overhear him saying "haven't driven it in 17 years, that car used to be the fastest thing around"At this point I had to butt in and ask- What kind of car is it??? Tony answers for him and says it's a 69 Nova SS 375hp. At this exact time I'm thinking yeah right. I asked the guy if we can ride up and check it out (thinking he would have an excuse for us not to look)He says I'm headed to the house right now, come on up. Still in disbelief of the chain of events for our Sunday morning, my buddy Tony tells me the guy drives 40 mph everwhere he goes and has owned this Nova since 1970.
We turn onto Hwy 11 (a little hint for any local guys) and go to the 1st right again, drive up a 1 lane gravel road that deadends in a "hollow" where his house is. There it is, sitting under a tree with the typical blue tarp from Wal-Mart. We walk over and he pops the hood. At this time I'm thinking *&*^% !!!!! He starts telling me about the car while I look at it in disbelief that this car is 3 miles from my shop and you can throw a rock and hit a major 4 lane hwy. THE CAR IS A MATCHING ### LEGIT 375 CAR!!!! 4spd,12 bolt 4.10, 8 track player under the dash, acient S/W tach, Muncie shifter, paint code 52 52 (Garnett Red)and sitting under a tree going to hell. The Cragars are rusted beyond belief and the tires are dry rotted but hold air.the car is still decent though but needs the usual trunk. lower 1/4's and front fender are a little rusty. he pulls the original Holley out of his "shed" and says the only thing he didn't have were the exhaust manifolds. This proves that there are still some of these cars around. And no this isn't a BS story. If anyone is interested I'll try to get him to let me take some pics and post them up. And yes I tried to buy the car to no avail, said he was going to fix it up. How many times have we heard that before. I'll follow up on the pics.
