Default Stripe Color

Question, Ive had this car on blocks for almost 20 years, Im about to get her restored and painted the original Hugger Orange. She is an X33 with standard black interior. Question is, White or Black Stripes?

If your trim tag denotes 72 72 for the exterior color, then it originally came with white stripes. Interior color did not determine stripe color, it is driven by vinyl top color and the exterior color itself.
It's great to see that you are going to return it to it's original color. Are you also gonna put the correct silver grill back in?

"It's great to see that you are going to return it to it's original color. Are you also gonna put the correct silver grill back in?" Actually when you got a replacement grill in those days it came black and you got a can of Argent Silver to paint it with, now you can buy the repro's..I got her this way.
Not sure what were going to find when we strip it down, hopefully everything looks good. I bought this car when I was 18 and its the only one Ive kept through all the years. She was called the Mayflower, lot of girls came across on her..

I agree the original stripe color was probably white. Was there any way to request black stripes without getting a -- paint code? IMHO the orange cars look much better with black stripes. More contrast.

When you take the car apart for the repaint I suspect the original stripe color will be lurking somewhere under the cowl panel, blown over onto the firewall etc. Even the most thorough repaints leave evidence behind, and considering the length of time you've owned this car odds are good it's only been painted once or twice. Disassemble it carefully and take lots of pics. A coat of Hugger Orange and a silver grille will give that Z a fresh new face. Get at it!

The Franklin Mint car also had a black top, so it should have black stripes... the black grill is a different story though...
