Default L88 Exhaust manifolds

I have a 1968 L88 motor that I'm building. I don't have a original L88 car but I'm looking for one. Would that motor originally have had emissions stuff on it?

Interesting question. My understanding on L-88s was that they were not sold to the "average Joe " until 1969. If you are talking about L-88s they were all earmarked for racing applications. If so why put on smog ??? Someone else can takeover from here.

Now if you are talking 1969 L-88s that's a different storey, and even more complicated.

I have seen L-88 Corvettes with smog set ups. I can send pictures to help with your build.

Any information is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to build the engine/car( when I find the car) back to stock. If it wouldn't have originally had it I definately won't put it on. If you want to send me pictures here is my address: [email protected] thanks.

I would think that it would depend on the car you get. The car you find may or may not have had the smog equiptment.

Interesting ....all pre 1969 L-88s were supposed to be for racing application only, no radio, heater etc.. and you had to have connections, talked to quite a few guys who could not get one despite a lot of effort, (Doug Dewar who owns the blue 66 r'ster, left unrestored last time I saw it...long time ago at the Anahiem NCRS meet ) tried very hard.

Not saying its not right for a late 1969 car.

The February '86 Road & track did a feature on a 16,000 mile completely original 1968 Corvette L88. The engine photo shows manifolds and an AIR pump.

I will double check my NCRS convention pictures with the 5 or 6 L-88 Corvettes on display. I am almost certain one of them had A.I.R. system.

I do not know how to post a picture so this will have to do for now. VETTEFINDERJIM, who posted a bunch of beautiful corvettes on e-bay, is also a member of this board. I talked to him a couple times about a 1966. This is his L-88 he is selling

note the A.I.R. system in the engine pics.
