I did a search on this but found nothing.
On my '70 BM Phase III vette, I need a set of BB chrome headers and would like not to have to worry about the dam things deteriating like the last set did. Their claim about the cooler interior temp sounds very inviting too. I know my car will be a trailer queen to a certain degree but I sure that I will have to be able to cruise it some sat night just to blow the minds of the locals around here. My question is this process chrome looking enought to not degrade the look of the car when I show it. I want the headers to look like they are chrome but the Jet Hot finish looks like it may be just a little duller looking than chrome. Is it going to look like crap on my white Motion car??? The last set rusted to nothing from the inside. I realize it is my car to do what I want with but I don't want to have it look cobbled up either. This looks like the way to go to me. I am sure that I will do it on the '69 car with the headers into the factory sidepipes because they were not chrome when I got the car and they don't show from the outside. I may do them in white since that is what I used a lot back when I was racing just to help keep the engine compartment cooler. I can still remember how hot my feet got at night when I would cruise the restless ribbon as we called Peoria Ave. here it Tulsa. How about it guys? Any input ??? ![]()

[/ QUOTE ] you mean "we" right Larry? ![]() ![]() I would stick with Chrome plating.. Those pipes on your car turned to dust because of how it set for so long.. I doubt the new set on it will get that kind of neglect again.. Just a feeling. A good chrome plate job should hold up for a long long time, just as long as you keep those pipes heated from the inside if you get my drift ![]()

I had Jet Hot do the coatings on the set of headers for my Viper. Very inticate: 10 separate tubes, all still fit together after the coating was done. They did a great job. Looks like a polished pewter finish. Depending on how hot the tubes get, they tend to turn slightly satin finished, but still retain the nice shine 4 years later. No discoloration or bluing like chrome. They also did the original 1970 set of headers from my Hemi Charger, same good results. They don't fix dents so make sure the tubes are as straight as you want them prior to shipping to them. They then sandblast them and prep them for the coating. I also had them coat the exhaust manifolds on my Z11. They have a cast iron finish as well, and it looks perfect a year later. Their turn around time is usually a matter of days. I can say it fast I just cant spell it fast. BTW, the headers on the Viper have had the most abuse of all my cars: about 1000 total miles of high rpm racing temps, resulting in some minor satin spots near the exhaust ports. The HemiCharger headers still retain the polished finish on all parts. And an added plus is that it is much cheaper than chrome plating. I think it was about $250 to do the Hemi headers, including shipping (but that was several years ago) I you want I can try to take a digital photo and attach it later. -Steve |

I got a set of Doug's headers done by them. Very nice finish and the "Sterling" coating is very nice and low key. Kind of lustrious without being too shiny.

I had them do my exhaust manifolds, and they were supposed to duplicate the cast iron grey. They look to "painted" to me, but maybe they will get darker once they are installed.

I had a set of exhaust manifolds done by them also and at first they looked great, but after a year they started to rust! I sent them back for warranty. They did redo them for free and all it cost was shipping. If I were to have another set of exhaust manifolds done by them I would make them very slick as to remove any pores on them to take a better caoting. But of course you guys with an original car and wanting an original look would not want to do this. There coatings do look good but are not exact.I since use the por15 product and it works really great.I found that if you heat up the piece you are coating first then coat it and after it dries to touch then put it in an oven and heat it up to 400 degrees for a few minutes it works a lot better and last a lot longer. Also por15 has a great engine paint kit that works extremely well and last much longer than paint. My engine is 2 years old and has about 5000 miles and still looks new.I found that regular paint tends to dull after about year and a few hundred miles.
