Default Why are people collecting trim tags?

Exscuse the stupid question?, I just hit on a buyer at e-bay that has buying 69 trimtags, but there is no claim of a title with them, is it just for fun, or??? What good are they without the title?, think he is tracking lost title paperwork for them?. Just curious what you guys know on the subject.

Thats a good question. Some folks do just collect them and nail them to their garage wall etc., others collect them and try to clone a car thats not what it started out as from the factory.

Jeff question, So lets say I have a plain jane 69 and buy a tag with some options, doesnt the tag match up with the vin at the windshield?, By the way i do not have a 69 I am trying to clone, so dont send hate messages my way. I just want to understand this new practice to better protect me and maybe we will learn something from the experts.

I think some of the guys buying the tags are trying to get them off the market so bogus cars can't be created from them. Generally, the VIN does tie into a build date so you'd have to find the right tag for your car to turn it into something else. But during some of the real busy time periods, there were a lot of cars built so it might not be hard to find a Z28 trim tag to put on your 307 car.

Interesting note....The winning bidder on this trim tag is also the seller of the Fast and Furious wrecked Yenko Clone that I posted off Ebay under Musclecars Wanted. Wonder if there is a upcomimg connection?

Ok I confess! I have an extra trim tag.I took one off of a 69 SS Chevelle that was under water in a river during a canoe (sp?) trip.We had heard rumors about this Chevelle for years. So while camping we made it a quest to find the Chevelle, document the find, and part what was left.We were quite a site back at the livery with a boat load of Velle parts. So yes, in the Mohican river (late 80's),there WAS a 69 SS Chevelle.......minus my body tag trophy of coarse. What else are they good for?

Ok, I confess too, I took one off a junk yard car that I found in a wall of cars - 4th car up! It was a '70 Nova, SS, L78, a/t on the column, 731 interior, F41 car, forest green (I thought it was a Deuce till I saw the BB stuff!) Everything was gone except the rear sway bar plates and BB heater box. I pryed the trim tag off because it had an earlier body number than the Deuces, but a later build date. So, I thought it was an interesting piece.

I'm off the hook though, I laid it on the fender of a 240Z so I could climb out of the engine compartment, and it blew away So, I would collect one or two if they were related to my Yenko Deuce research!
