You will need to post the date codes to help determine the application, but these were primarily used on 1970 396-375 HP (L-78) and 454-450 hp (LS-6)engines. It appears a few of the #291's were used on '69 L-78's and L-72's. If you would like to sell then best to post the info in the "Parts for Sale" section for maximum exposure.

Interesting... Especially the 1.72 valve size installed in the 291 head.

I'd be VERY curious as to the casting dates on these cylinder heads.

Stan Falenski

Have the heads had seats put in them? I am just curious if they ORIGINALLY came with 1.72 exhaust valves. I would be REAL interested to see the dates as well, as I have a set of REALLY early 291s.

But, to answer your question, "yes", it seems that some late '69 big block cars got 291 heads, versus the 840 heads. The 291s appear to have replaced the 840s, sometime around May '69 (or at least that's when they switched from casting the 840s to the 291s), as they are the exact same heads, except for the exhaust valve size, and some of the 291 heads took the "peanut plugs" while some took the "flat" style plugs. I recently ran across a set of 840 heads that appear to have the original seats, and have the 2.19/1.88 valves...this just helps muddy the water!

Here's some more details. They are completely stock. No Porting, no polishing. They do have minor surface rusting. The onlything not original is the springs. The only work that has been performed on these heads is minor surfacing (once) and do not require any additional surfacing. Both heads have the correct 3964291 castings, with date codes of 61269 & D1370. As I said before, the date codes are off for a match, but they are both 3964291 - with the ?Yenko? 2.19" intake and 1.72" exhaust.

Make an offer - [email protected] - if interested.

Default 69 Yenko/COPO Rect. Port BBC Heads

I have a pair of BBC Closed Chamber heads, both 3964291. The date codes don't match exactly, yet neverless are bot 4291s. They are rect. port, with 2.19" Intake, and 1.72" Exhaust. I have been told these were availble in limited edition COPO 1969 Chevelles from factory.

Is this correct? If so, does anyone know anyone looking for a pair of these heads?

Thanks
