Default '63 Corvair Rampside Pickup

I can't remember ever seeing one of these in person with the side hatch down. Chevy definitely had some interesting utility features designed into these trucks...neat idea to get stuff in and out of the bed laterally. Would certainly help in hauling certain types of stuff...according to the seller, these rampside trucks were used by Bell to load and unload cable drums at job sites.

My parents’ next door neighbor had one of these several years ago that I ignored but now I’m thinking that it may have been something fun just to tinker around with. Wish I paid more attention to it and this may possibly even be the same vehicle given its extreme proximity!

The paint scheme and interior upholstery give that truck a much nicer appearance than the originals. It is quite classy. The originals were very plain and utilitarian. The truck, and van, configurations were used by utility companies. The father of a kid I knew in grade school had one of these AND a van. His dad did some sort of contractor work.
WOW, I went looking for a van and found the trucks twin !!!

If you ever drove a Corvair, I believe you would soon get bored with it. The sound of steel balls, rattling around in a tin can way behind you and the lack of power, are very different from what we are used to with muscle cars. The 4 carb, 140 did OK in that light car, but it lacked the punch and SOUND of a V8.

I owned 2, 6-7 years ago, when I "thought" I needed a convertible. 1965 Monza 140 and a 1966 Corsa. They didn't stay around more than couple years and I was back looking for the '62 Impala SS I bought after I sold the Corvairs.
