For whatever reason, the last digit, or two last digits, of the sequence number are often hand stamped on CE blocks. I have a '72 CE 402 in the garage with a hand-stamped '3' as the last digit of the sequence.

The CE block in my 70 Z project has the last two digits hand stamped as well. Lynn, if you look on the bottom of the block by the oil filter it will have the assembly month and year.

I've been keeping data on CE blocks for some time, and every pad stamp picture I have has the last 2 digits hand-stamped.

Hi Tim - Australia..
I have a couple of CE photos re. my Big Block Chevy #9854 2 bolt block for your perusal. Going to need an Email address to send 'em to though. Wayyy back in '70 things were punched in a rudimentary sense as you'll see. Maybe PM me if you wish. Ted in Montreal |
