My friend Dave posted this on facebook . His Dad worked at the Tonawanda plant. Maybe someone knows this car.
![]() ![]() ![]() OK, here ya go, muscle car guys. This car was a frequent visitor to my neighbor's house when I was a kid growing up in Kenmore, New York. My neighbor had a '75 Type LT Camaro that was for show use only and he and a few of his buddies had a little car club. This '69 Chevelle was one of the cars in that club. I took these photos in 1980 when I was 10 years old and can remember the owner telling my Dad ( a Chevrolet Tonawanda Metal Casting plant employee at the time ) that the car came with a 427 in it. It was a 4 spd car, had a line lock kit in it and this was used often out in the St Andrews School parking lot across the street from our house on Lowell Rd. where the owner enjoyed engulfing the car in rubber smoke until one of the priests would come running out of the rectory to run him off. Of course, I love seeing all of the period speed and dress up equipment and the styles of the day ( M/T valve covers, the awesome canted intake, the big yellow Accel hot box on the firewall, the skinny runners up front and big 60s in the rear mounted on sparkly Cragar S/Ss, the little chrome mud flaps and all the chrome goodies sprinkled throughout along with what look like some kind of traction bars underneath ) . Now that I'm older and am more familiar with these cars I'm tempted to say that this was an immaculate, 11 year old, 427 COPO Chevelle that was running around our neighborhood. Obviously, anyone could have put the 427 in the car but the fact that it wasn't very old, has the proper Malibu trim but with SS hood makes me think it could have been one of those rare little birds. I hope, for his sake, that he kept it! |

I'm by no means an expert but I did notice the ss hood and the lack of ss badges and/or Malibu emblems

I love the sideways intake. I had to look up the word Dave called it "canted" [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif[/img] Has all the Day2 stuff you put on back then.

Edelbrock Tarantula or Torker intake. On a big block Chevy the idea was to even out the length of the runners on a single plane manifold.
