Default Where's my old '69 Camaro?

I owned this car between 1986 and 1989... was sold new from Fanning Chevrolet in Gresham Oregon. Hugger Orange, white vinyl top and ivory/black deluxe interior. X66, SS 396/350 HP, M21 4-speed, 3.55 posi. I really enjoyed this car and drove it everywhere. Anyway, just curious if anyone here owns it or knows where this car is today? The last photo is one that I found online a few years ago on a Camaro site and I'm 99% sure its the same car...

Can't help you locate the car, but found the name of the selling dealership interesting, as there was also a Fanning Chevrolet in my home town of Aurora, IL. It was a thriving dealership from the early 1950's thru the mid 1980's, and definitely sold their fair share of performance cars back in the day.

No kidding?... I wonder if they were related? I really don't know anything about the dealer in Oregon, just that this was car sold new from there per the shipper copy. I do remember the car having the Fanning/Gresham plate frame on the back when my friend bought the car from the original owner.

Less is known of the Gresham Fanning dealership but Ed Fanning sold lots o' performance cars back in the day including an '68 L89 Camaro, a few LS6's and more!.
Typing 'Fanning' in the search box here yields lots of past threads/cars here!.

There's a pair of Ed Fanning plate frames on eBoy right now, link below..
Make sure to check the seller's other items as there's a gaggle of others too!.

Anyone that has 'em, please add the dealer code info below..

Grant,

I don't know if there is any family relationship between the two dealerships....probably just coincidence.

Pete,

1252 N. Lake St. would be the correct address for Ed Fanning in Aurora IL from around 1963 until they went belly-up in the early to mid 1980's. Prior to that they were located at 230 S. Broadway in Aurora. And you're right, they sold a LOT of performance cars in the 60's and early 70's. They also sponsored a 70 LS6 Chevelle which was raced at the local drag strip (Oswego Drag Raceway) and was driven by their parts manager, Art (his last name escapes me at the moment).

Grant,
The car came to the Chicago area when I bought it in 1996. It was one of the best driving Camaros I've ever owned. Unfortunately business needs required it had to go. Dana Mecum bought the car from me a year or so later. I did see the car for sale in Hemmings in '98 or so at a dealership in Florida. I remember talking to the dealership because they had it advertised as a 10,000 mile car. Someone had lost all the paperwork that was with the car showing mileage over the years. The original slightly worn carpet had also been replaced. It still was mostly original paint. I haven't heard about the car since. I'll see if I can find it.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for the info! I believe it was you that called me right after you bought the car to ask about its history. I remember hearing about and seeing the car advertised online as a low-mileage car. I think it had around 80K when my friend bought it in the early 80's and around 100K when I sold it in '89. It sure was a nice driving car and it sounded great too. Keep me posted...

Thanks!

110k on a 69 now = 10 k ORIGINAL once the slimy dealers get a hold of them, and conveniently all the paperwork disappears??? hmmm typical for that type

Paul Dehnert, who we lost last year, would talk about the '70 Z28 that he bought new from Ed Fanning Chevrolet in Aurora, IL back in 1970. He said they had gobs of them on the lot when he bought his.

Grant,
I talked to the current owner. It is in good hands with some other great '69 Camaros. Send me a pm and I'll give you the current owner's number.
Mark
