Default Original paint '62 409hp 409

This is a pretty neat car...seller is claiming it's a 409/409 4-speed but the original short block is missing.

Are there any conclusive ways to document an original 409hp '62 without the original short block intact?

There are many things to look for and the list is too long and detailed to post. I'd have to see the car in person (or maybe 50 pics)

Verne

I looked at the photos on the listing. IT could be a real one but there are a lot more details that should be checked. I noticed a repro aircleaner and an incorrect 4-spd. The floor hole doesn't look factory. Just a pile of parts that could be ok or not.

----If the car hasn't been off the frame (like this one) check the fuel line as it went further forward in the engine compartment. Just one quick way.....Bill S

Both the 327s and the 409s had the same fuel line in '62. They didn't run any further forward but were run under the upper control arm rather than alongside the inside edge of the frame rail.

Every data set needs to include a few outliers in order to be complete.....

More info if someone is interested:

1. the 409 emblems are real, not repro
2. The throttle rod is for a 327
3. The 4-spd back-up switch harness (part of it) is there
4. The holes are in the inner fender for the tach sender (correct for either 300hp 327 or 409 with a 4-spd)
5. The engine harness is not for a 409, but it's been messed with.
6. The cowl tag is legit and shows a red on red sport coupe (non SS)
7. The steering column is a legit 4-spd column
8. The radiator in the trunk is for a std trans but I can't tell which one it is.
9. Valve covers appear to be from a '64
10. The bellhousing would be correct for either a 300hp 327 or a 409
11. The heads have the right numbers for a 409 but no dates are shown.
12. From what little I can see of the carbs, they appear to be correct.

The floors appear to be nice and solid but the photos don't show the front braces which are the first to go. (not repro'd correctly for a '62).
