If a 1966 Biscayne was ordered as a police fleet vehicle with a 427 motor, what horsepower 427 would have come in those vehicles?
.... 425 or 390 ? Anyone have one ? |

I doubt the L72 was available.
Not proof, but . . .. https://www.flickr.com/photos/autohistorian/5688517852 |

Lots of them undoubtedly got junkyard 396s not long after delivery to the police maintenance garages.

![]() L72 Cop Cars were indeed available and built in years other than '67, some were even 4-Speeds! My 2-Dr. Post '67 Biscayne unmarked RCMP Ghost car is an L35 396/325 M40 but member 2qwik2c has one similar w/ the L36 427 M40...both cars have factory 140 Speedos. There's old threads w/ Mk1V cop cars including at least one existing L72 '68 or '69...I'll look for it later but it was Joe MacDonald 3macs1 that posted it here if anyone wants to try finding it now. I haven't heard of any '66 L72 police cars existing from the '66 guru's I know. I'll have to inquire. If it came with a 427, my gut says they'd be 390hp. They'd probably want to have air to stay cool on their routes. But maybe they had a sleeper or 2 to get some of the racers!

Reminds me of a highschool friend....when he wanted a car about 1963, his dad went to the Pa. State auction in Harrisburg...bought him a 1962 Impala 4 door, 327, 300 horse, 3 on the tree wih overdrive . Had been a Pa. Turnpike pursuit car.

Never heard of an L72 police car either. I've seen an invoice from a 66 Biscayne with the 427/390 police package.

![]() Thanks Bruce and yep, that's one of the posts w/ the '68 L72-Spds Joe mentioned. He posted about the cars a few times also other MK1V cop cars plus emailed me some pics back then but I'm not sure if the shots of the L72 car were included w/ what he laid out here or not...I'll look through what I may still have of what he sent me? Either way I trust the source and Joe just the greatest guy but like others here, I lost contact too so don't know what happened to him or his and his brother's or their friends cars? Back to the subject, I'm not aware of any existing '66 L72 Police cars but if looking, lots of cool Canadian W-motor and MK1V cop cars were produced through the 60's...including Canadian Pontiacs too!
