Default Cortez Silver paint sample needed

A buddy of mine is restoring a VERY worthy 1969 Chevelle and would like to compare paint samples with a car that still wears original Cortez Silver paint. Unfortunately we can't find an original unrestored car nearby, so I'm searching for a small part off an original Cortez Silver 1969 Camaro, Chevelle or Nova (like an original valence, header, cowl, spoiler etc.) that we can have shipped up here in order to match the paint samples to it. The part can be damaged and otherwise useless, as long as it still has a decent remaining sample of paint that can be cleaned and shined-up.

If you have a good sample item, please post a reply or send me a pm. Naturally, we'll pay for the item (if it has value) and the shipping costs.

Thanks guys!

Thanks. I have those too, but those are really small samples to try and match up to... But thanks for posting.

For what it's worth.. Those pages of paint samples are ink, not paint. Color distortion can ensue over time with light exposure, etc. Most notable Corvette judges will not use them on the field.

I just did a code 69 color match on a Norwood built 12C X66.
If you are using Axalta Chroma base these are the numbers I used to get to the original sprayed color.

I have Finish Masters mix a pint using the book formula.
I spray it out and clear then check direct and 45deg.
If I can see a difference in original vs spray out.
I weigh out 40.000g of the mixed paint in three separate containers adding the requisite tint in the following amounts 0.25g to one, 0.50g to one, and 1.00g to the last.
I spray out those 3, clear, and check.
If necessary adjust ratios, respray, and check again.

These are about 7x actual size, with the actual size depicted in these photos being 1" tall by 1.5" wide

A few things to consider. Laquer has a different sheen than bc/cc simply because of the clear. To replicate the laquer buffer sheen, you need to reshoot laquer.
Also, GM used 4 different paint jobbers. DuPont, ditzler, Acme, and R&M. All of them are slightly different. CS is very hard to find scanable pieces as it degraded quickly in the UV rays. Scans also are only as reliable as the scanner. The newer scanners are much better than the older versions, so if you go that was get the newest version available.
We do have the formula in chroma premier that we shot Bill Edel's CS deuce in. We'd be glad to share that with you if you want it. Might take a while to dig out. Justbadjoe has it somewhere. Let me know if you would like it.

JAG, you sure have gone through some serious effort! Hard to show properly on a computer, but if you're satisfied with your match that's very encouraging. Do you have a photo of the car that you used that color on?

Ken, if it's not too much trouble to dig out the formula, yes we should give it a try. I'd sure like to see photos of Bill Edel's Cortez Silver deuce.

I realize that colors look much different in photos than in person. Looks like we're going to have to mix up some paints and spray them out. We will still need an original panel or portion of a panel with original factory Cortez Silver paint on it to make a paint decision, so getting an original CS piece of metal is still our overall goal.

Your help is very much appreciated...

Perhaps we could bend Bruce's arm a little and he could post some shots of Bill's car from the super car reunion, and MCACN. I'll see if Joe can dig it up.
