Guys, wondering whether a small block '70 Nova SS was available from the factory with a 10 bolt rear? Trying to do a little research on my Nova.
Thanks in advance.

Also whether it could have been ordered with a 3 speed manual on the column?

According to the Nova Resource site a 10 bolt might be possible...perhaps others have knowledge of real cars with some of these options. http://www.novaresource.org/rpo_Z26.htm wilma

I'm pretty sure the 3 speed manual would have been the standard transmission for the car. Any other transmission would have been optional.

As I understand it, a 300hp/350 Powerglide car might have came with a 10-bolt. I am not 100% sure of this though, as I've never seen one.
Go here - page 36: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm...vrolet-Nova.pdf It shows a 10-bolt ratio with the 300hp/350-PG combo (3.08 vs 3.07 for all 12-bolt equipped cars). It also looks like the THM, PG, and 4-speed were the only transmissions offered in a SS. |

Interesting thing...our 68 SS came from the factory with 350/295hp L48, Powerglide and 12 bolt rear.

Thanks for the help guys. There sure are a lot of differing opinions out there which is why I thought I would ask here. My Nova looks to have the original engine still in it, albeit rebuilt at some point, as the vin on the front of the block matches the car The other stampings next to the block vin are V060ICNI match the build date of the car and say it to be a 350 2V w/3 speed manual column shift. The car was originally forest green with a black vinyl top and a black bench seat interior. I had read it was possible to get a 10 bolt in a small block SS but being relatively new to the Nova, wasn't quite sure. I will post some pics of the block stampings and cowl tag tonite. I realise none of this will be able to confirm my car's heritage but it's nice to know the possibilities all the same.
Thanks again.

Well, your last post answers the main question...since the deck stamp indicates the 250hp motor [w/vin match] that rules out the SS option. The 1970 Nova SS base engine was the L48 350/300hp small block...the 250hp version was not an SS engine option.
Sorry...but, it still sounds like an interesting car. If the tranny is original, it is most likely the Saginaw unit...this would have been the tranny used with the low horse 350 motor. Let's see some photos and more details... wilma

Tom, no need to be sorry, I'm pleased to know how my car started life.
It has been modified some as it has a T700R4 trans now as well as some other changes that take away from the originality. A nicely done Nova I think all the same. The link below has some pics and info. Thanks again. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...ova#Post555502
