1969 Yenko 427 SC Novas - front springs

Does anyone know what springs were used in the front end on the 1969 Yenko 427 SC Novas? Are they still available or what can be used as replacement to get the front end back up where it belongs.

The springs were most likely the stock BB springs that would have been used with the Super Sport L78 cars. These were "converted cars"...starting life as a 4 speed L78 and then Yenko upgraded them to the 427 motor. Chevrolet made the spring selection based on options a car had that affected the weight on the front end. The springs were basically the same as a 69 Camaro...codes were most likely HJ or HH... this chart will give you an idea of what I mean. Perhaps Greg Roberts has one specifically for Novas.

I have checked the spring tags on several original L78 Novas...everyone has been HH.

I believe Eaton can make you the exact springs you need...I have ordered from them before. Perhaps some of the other tech gurus have other suggestions.

Thanks Tom -- This car will have A/C being here in San Antonio ... that will add weight to the nose and want the car sitting pretty level. Gotta' have A/C down here if you want to enjoy the ride in the summer.

What about 1969 Camaro front springs? You could get a BBC with A/C and that would be the same sub-frame.

I'm sure you know the BB Nova was never offered with A/C [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif[/img] ...the Camaro parts will be needed for this or maybe you can work around some small block Nova stuff. Either way it will be a tight fit...headers may be an issue with that A/C setup...manifolds may work better....or perhaps you are going the Vintage Air route, in which case it may be a whole lot easier.

Sounds like a cool project...keep us informed.

I picked up a 79' Nova for parts including all the A/C -- got everything including the RH firewall, wiring, etc. This latest project will keep me busy.

I am sure I will ask more Qs of the EXPERTS here ...

My '69 L78 Nova had these &quot;YM&quot; front springs. Does anyone reproduce these stickers? I saw that Classic Industries only had the &quot;YH&quot; stickers.

And by the way, my Nova is a no-frills car, only options are L78/CX400. No power steering. I ran the description through the Nova spring calculator on one of the sites and it was correct in stating &quot;YM&quot;
