Working in the shop today

.....with the bay door open and a guy wanders in curious about what I'm working on. We talk a bit, then he asks if I know anything about old ZL1 Camaros. Proceeds to tell me about his ZL1 he had in the 70s. Fathom Green 4 speed. Said it was bought new in MD and he was the second owner. Says he sold it in the mid 70s to a man who one night, got into it with his wife, hopped in the car and tore down the road and proceeded to use trees to mangle the car. I'm assuming totaled but he didn't know. Based on the "story," I'd have to assume #34, 35 or 40 was the car. Any of these known to be destroyed?

#35 is safe and sound.

Most likely #36 N612913 or #44 N618396. #36 was registered in MD at one time. #40 is possible as it was found in a junkyard; I sold a BE axle to the owner in 1982. The others mentioned are accounted for.

Never surprised at how much you guys know on these cars.....and certainly disappointed I lost the hobby for such a long time.

William, was the yard (#40) in VA? That's where she met her demise. Both those owners I spoke of were VA residents.....and still are.

The individual I sold the axle to was Lewis Swan. He bought it from whoever retrieved it from the junkyard. I thought it was MD. If it went through a salvage auction it could have ended up in MD.
