Garage Lighting
I'm looking for some lighting options for my garage - I'm using three bays for finished cars. The dimension of the area I need lighting for is 36' x 24' with a 10 foot cieling. My intial thoughts are 2 sections (front/back) in each "bay". Any thoughts on the best lighting to showcase things would be great - pictures are always welcome [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif[/img]

Jeff my shop is 30x32 with 14' ceilings. I am using the new small T5 4' 4 bulb light fixtures with reflectors. The reflectors are for the high ceiling which you wouldn't need. More than enough light.

I'm finishing up a 30 x 40 with an 11' ceiling. I have four banks of three T5 two-tube units with some additional zone lighting in an area where I do some sign work. For the most part I'm happy with them although I rarely have the entire shop fully lit.
You'll find the older you get the more light you need!!!! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif[/img] Lots of good info here.

My garage is 32d x 60w & 9'8" ceilings with each bay being 32d x 20w. The lighting is also in 3rds with the working bay has 8, 4' doubles t-8 & the other 2 bays have 4, 4' doubles staggered. I did thc ceiling in bright white flat & the walls in bright white semi gloss. You can see pretty good in there. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif[/img]

Most lighting manufacturers will help you calculate the necessary lumens based on the square footage and the height of the fixtures. If done correctly, it will provide even shadowless lighting in the space. It worked out great in my 60 x 40 with vaulted ceilings. It's worth the time to calculate. It took maybe an hour. JMO, Ed

When I installed my lighting in my small 24 x 24. I copied what I had seen at work. They installed a polished reflector in the high bay overhead lights. When shopping for my fixtures I avoided any 7.99 Lowes-Depot crap hanging disposable fixtures. I went to a local elect distr wharehouse that sells to public walk ins and specified "Specular strip reflector" they were pay in advance and special order , but the difference is HUGE! I sprung for Tanden (electonic ballasts = instant on and No magnetic Buzz)fixtures total length 8', with 4bulb T-8's. I Assembled, wired with pigtails and flush mounted as my overhead is only 9'.
Product: 8' tandem, LITH TC232MVOLTT1/GEB10ISFLOUR FIX $49.89 each Also ordered some 4'strip fixtures Cooper Lighting METLUX CPL SS232UNVEB81U $34.03 each The Mirrored polished reflectors were PN STN-SS-SYM-SS-4-2 $21.50 each OUCH! the reflectors COST bucks! They are the last lighting I will EVER have to install. On the rainy Pac NW days , I can get a Tan in my garage. Kidding aside, I am pushing 50 and my eyes apprecieate the good light.
