Default Have You Slept In A Wigwam Lately?

I have.

Spent the first two day of my vacation taking a mini tour on Rt 66 east of Flagstaff. Not much left, but there are quite a few stops to check out. We ended up spending a night at the Wigwam in Holbrook, AZ. Took a few photos of the place.

We stayed in #6

The place is no resort, just a comfortable place to sleep, shower, and drive on to your next destination. Definitely cozy inside. Can't believe families would stay inside one of these.

Many of the units have an antique car parked out front.

This is behind the office.

So is this

Old Pontiac

Storms were all around us, but it never rained in Holbrook.

At one time, there were many Wigwam parks. This one is #6 and is the only one still operating.

No way this one is road worthy!

This is the best old car on the lot!

Night time

They are lit up an night.

Neat old Mobil gas station less than a block away.

That's all for tonight. It appears I missed a car show by one day, as there was a big show one day prior.

Our family stayed at the same Wigwam village in 1953 when we made our epic trip out west.

Cosy is right, but at the time I was only a child, and therefore everything looked a lot larger. I recall being satisfied to sleep on a fold up cot. Yeah.

LOL, Bruce, I was just going to post that, lol.

I wonder if that is where they got their inspiration for the movie?

That truck does looks suspiciously like "'Mater"!

Love those shots with the threatening skies! Never stayed there, but have visited it twice while passing thru Holbrook. First time, in '99, I don't recall them having all the antique cars on site....but I could be mistaken.

Cool shots, and my kind of accomodations.

I'm surprised the 2 door Ranch Wagon hasn't been snapped up!

Looks like a place the Griswolds would have stayed at in Vacation..
