So my neighbor down the street who is a Ford guy invites me to his house for a small car show last night that he was hosting for some of his friends. Thinking it would be mostly Fords I wandered over with the Chevelle.
When I get there this 72 GTO is sitting in the driveway. 400, 4 speed, 3:55 posi. 63,xxx miles Code 26 blue with a white vinyl interior and black carpet and black vinyl top. Original owner car, all factory and dealer delivery paperwork from day 1, ordered and bought new in Oak Lawn, all original factory paint (really nice), all original factory white interior with original black carpet. Car was judged a freeze frame at Bloomington Survivor show last year. Only part that is not factory is the paint on the engine, it was repainted several years ago, exhaust, belts and hoses, and repop tires. Really neat time capsule. Pictures do not do it justice, it was getting dark and all I had was my phone camera. With that many miles the car was preserved amazingly well. He still drives it to a bunch of shows throughout the Midwest every summer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very nice GTO! Original paint GTO's are rare. Cant read the window sticker... could it be a 3-speed car? I only say that because of the shift knob, its the optional walnut knob for a 3-speed with no pattern.

You know I did not ask, but there was not a 4 speed noted as an option on the window sticker, just the standard 3 speed under standard GTO equipment.

Looks like a great original car and hope to see it at the Indian Uprising this year?

Really cool car. The 71-72 GTO's were the best looking A-bodies in my opinion.
Curious, how did the old "6.5 Liter" GTO crest get on the dash over the heater controls? I think originally they had a PONTIAC script there, or a solid black panel, or air vents if it had a/c. Great color combo, and a true Musclecar.

Car is a factory 3-speed. He added crest to center. 1972 center of bezel was blank with no a/c as there was a Pontiac emblem on passenger side of dash panel.
