Default Muscle Car Dealer info request....

I came across Harwell Motors in Texas online and they seem to have a wide range of reasonably priced muscle cars and was wondering if anyone had any info to share in terms of experiences with them. I am here in Boston so being able to get something from the Texas area would be a win since we don't see alot of clean cars up here that have not been patched and cut up multiple times. Their site is www.harwellmotors.com and I have particular interest in the 69 Chevelle SS, Blue with white stripes. I respect the thoroughness of the group and would enjoy any opinions (good bad or ugly) on this car.
Thanks in advance.

Um, well, the price isn't bad.

If you are looking for something modified, then you would be happy with the appearance of the engine bay. If you are looking for something correct, there's lots of work to do and lots of money to be spent under that hood.

The interior looks pretty bad, but that might be the camera used to take the pictures. So I'll leave the interior alone.

Regarding the outside, the hood and deck stripes are obviously incorrect for a '69. And for me, to look at these pics and see heavy orange peel in the paint, well, makes me believe it is a quickly slapped together (and painted) '69 Chevelle. Spending a weekend color sanding that paint will probably do wonders. I could point out lots more, like the outside mirrors and the lack of heater hoses possibly indicating the heater core leaks, but I'll stop here.

Regarding the trim tag, the 765 indicates the interior had blue bucket seats, which it appears to have. Regarding the 71 E PNT, 71 = Lemans Blue, which it appears is what the car is wearing now. The E = Parchment Vinyl Top. I always thought Parchment was an off white. The lighting and camera may be fooling me.

You did ask for opinions, and that is mine.

That is exactly what I was looking for, I know most of the "correct" info is available with some searching but as I said, one of the greatest things about this board is the knowledge that exists here so thought this was my best starting point. I am a stickler for stock having a 71 Camaro SS350 4spd wearing its second coat of paint and having only 76k original miles with piles of paperwork. Not a super car but a very nice, correct ride that I enjoy. I would like to add another vehicle and Harwell seems to have some fair priced rides but I fear that they are clean cars that are put together and painted to satisfy a lower end market which is not a bad thing but probably not where I want to be. Thank you for your honesty, this is sufficient to put a quick pass on this one.

This is just my opinion - every car that I ever see this dealer selling really appears to of very low quality. Although some of the cars may appear nicely in the pictures, when you look closely you will see that thier cars are quite bad. I dont know about you, but I would never be proud to own a car that has been poorly pieced back together and of total low quality. At car shows and cruising you may feel ashamed compared to survivor cars or restored cars that were done correctly.

It sound like you are looking for a decent car - and possibly not something that was put back together very poorly. Try to explore your local market first as you can go see those cars with your own eyes - if that does not find you anything venture over to eBay and scope out a few cars of interest. Once you have honed in on one ask to see if someone is local to go review it for you or hop on a plane and do it yourself. Take it from me - the camera hides alot of sins as does tv. All those cars you see on Barrett Jackson and Mecum dont look that good in person.

Good luck finding a nice classic - be patient and buy the right car. Always remember you get what you pay for.

-----It would be wise to do a bunch of due diligence when you see rusted out Cherry Bomb mufflers. What do mufflers cost??? If they wont attend to that it makes a guy wonder.....Bill S

my opinion. I purchased a car from them once, never again. You can find the same quality of car where you are. Don't be fooled, and read his long legal disclaimers in his ebay ads.
