Default Decoding Ford engine tag - Help!

Anyone know where I can find information on decoding the aluminum engine ID tag on my '66 Fairlane 500 GTA? These tags were attached to the engine with the distributor bolt and used in lieu of stamping the engine with the date code, engine use and VIN stampings on GM motors, I Think!? I can not find any info. on how to determine if these cars have their born-with drive trains or what/where to look to see if they are at least numbers matching. Any guidance would be most helpful.
