Need a new project & was thinking about restoring a 50's vintage gas pump for the basement rec room.
I've watched the prices of the finished pieces, but thought it would be fun to do it myself. What's a good price for a decent pump that's not all rotted apart? Where's the best place to look for one? There were a couple in FLA (Ebay) at about $500.00 with an estimated shipping cost of about $300.00. Is that a good deal? Looked complete. |

What kind of pump are you talking about?
They are very broad in price, depending on Mfr. & brand. Based on your ebay reference of location & that price, are you speaking about those Wayne Sunoco pumps that just ended? Ohio just finished hosting their world renowned Oil & Gas show a few weeks ago. You might want to come to Iowa Gas on Aug. 5-6-7.It's held in DesMoines and is one of the premier Gas & Oil shows in the country. Oldgas.com is also a good place to browse. Click "Shop Talk" on the lefthand side of the Homepeage,..then "Forum List" on the next. Rick |

Lenny Werner in Ct. is a good source for the Sunoco pumps. I just purchased a Survivor Sunoco 260 Wayne 511 E pump from him for my garage landscape.

I have a Martin & Swartz Model 80, a Tokheim 300 and a Tokheim Model 39 short that were complete and functional but needed refinished. I have a total of $300 in all three pumps so shop around. There are bargains still out there if you're willing to pick them up and do the work yourself.

I don't know about your area but around here the farmers bought them from the gas stations. Drive around the country and look for them like you would look for an old car project. I never paid more than $300 for one and it was for a visible. I found over 20 of them and all were owned by farmers. Dustin

Mr70, those where the ebay pumps. I like the globe on top thing & that vintage. Can't be over 8 feet tall, so some of the really old ones wouldn't work for the basement.
Would not have a problem picking it up if it was close enough, wouldn't mind paying for shipping within reason either if I liked it. Thanks for the input, I'll keep searching. And I definitely would do the resto myself. |
